Has Anyone Undergone Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy?

Next week I am starting EMDR with my therapist. My homework is to “think of the most painful time of my life”.

Has anyone participated in this form of therapy? I’m interested to hear thoughts.

    Hi
I been doing EMDR for few years now …and it’s important you check on few things before starting..
One alarming thing stood out was u mentioned his asked u to think about your most traumatic moment already…not sure ? But has he even set up some pre stuff ?like safe place in your mind when things get bad..in other words he would set up multiple ways of you coping with emotional trauma..this piece is so important and if a qualified EMDR therapist he’d do this first ,before even starting .
Another piece I was aware of was not working after sessions its extremely imperative that you rest take care of you as your brain processes the events and you will be exhausted .
    Hope it helps a little..
Ps this therapy has been the best ..good luck with it hope it helps you to.
    Lisa

I haven’t, but I’m supposed to be starting EMDR therapy soon too. Technically I was supposed to start in yesterday’s session, but we got off on something else. I look forward to reading about your experience.

Thank you, Anxious. Looks like we’ll be starting this together. I’m looking forward to hearing about your experience with this, too.

Never tried it, but I’ve heard of it. Seems to be like CBT, works for some, not for others. I don’t think it would work for me any better than hypnotherapy or immersion therapy did, I don’t respond well to being forced into a situation in my mind frame. It’s all about that magic bullet, though, the one that fixes each of us as individuals. Good luck!

Thanks, Niki. Yeah, honestly I don’t see it working for me. It sounds along the lines of hypnosis in a very, very loose sense. I’m willing to give anything a try though. X

I’m about to the point of trying shock treatment, I’m just so sick of being treated like a plague carrier because I have mental issues that I can’t seem to fix on my own. I’ve done enough research on that to know even with multiple treatments, it ultimately wears off in people with chronic depression. Maybe Beavis and Butthead were onto something licking those psychodelic toads…

LOL. I spend so much time telling my kid not to do shit like that, and apparently, it doesn’t do any good even as adults!
